"It was in 1952 that the American Psychiatric Association (APA) published its first Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM), containing a list of 112 mental disorders. DSM-II, published in 1968, aligned with the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases (ICD), mental health disorders section, and consisted of 163 disorders. . . ."In 1980, the third edition, DSM-III, was released listing an extra 61 disorders, bringing the total to 224. Some interesting developments had occurred. In the 'Infancy, Childhood, and Adolescence' section, 32 new mental disorders were added, including: Attention Deficit Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Developmental Reading Disorder, Developmental Arithmetic Disorder, and Developmental Language Disorder. "In 1987, the number of mental disorders increased to 253 in DSM-IIIR. By 1994, DSM-IV had taken the total count to 374. . . . "[The] introduction to DSM-III [states]: 'For most of the DSM-III disorders . . . the etiology [cause] is unknown. A variety of theories [has] been advanced, buttressed by evidence not always that convincing to explain how these disorders come about.' "In other words, not one of the DSM's long list of disorders is supported by any objective diagnostic observations or criteria. . . . "Here's why the UN is in fact a threat and how it all works. Sovereignty is the answer to the question: 'who's in charge?' You have to answer that question before you can answer the parallel question: 'who's responsible?' This environmental agenda is driven by the United Nations through two specific UN organization, the United Nations Environmental Program and the International Union of Conservation and Nature. . . . "By joining the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Culture and National Heritage, adopted in November 1972 at the 17th General Conference of UNESCO, the United States ceded control over Yellowstone National Park, the Everglades National Park, the Grand Canyon National Park, the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, Yosemite National Park, the Carlsbad Caverns National Park, and you will find this astounding, Monticello, Jefferson's home, and the Statue of Liberty! . . . "Roe v. Wade was never about the law. It was never about the Constitution. It was never about privacy. It was never about the facts of the case. It was a political decision made by unaccountable legislators guised, fittingly, in black robes. . . ."The 1973 U.S. Supreme Court did not interpret the Constitution. And it did not represent the people of the United States. Instead, it overturned laws in 46 states outlawing abortion -- legislation approved by the will of the people -- and restrictions on it in the remaining four states. . . . [And the Tenth Amendment says . . .] "To justify its decision overturning legislation in 50 states, the Supreme Court was forced to come up with a constitutional excuse. So, it simply invented one -- a right of privacy that is nowhere found in the Constitution. In fact, in delivering the court's majority opinion, Justice Harry A. Blackmun frankly admits: 'The Constitution does not explicitly mention any right of privacy.'. . . . "[T]he Declaration of Independence [states]: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.' "Life is an unalienable right, which means man can't take it away through laws or through Supreme Court decisions. . . . "Roe v. "Though most people will spend their entire lives romancing the notion of freedom, few actually live in freedom because the price of freedom is responsibility for one's actions. Inseparable from freedom is responsibility -- responsibility for one's spiritual, political, physical and economic successes or failures."Historically, the bulk of humanity insists upon transferring the individual's responsibility to make important personal decisions regarding spiritual, political, physical and economic matters to organized religions and governments. "Said another way, people beg churches and governments to make decisions for them so they can be absolved of responsibility for their spiritual, political, physical and economic activities. "Said yet another way, people pay tribute to churches (tithes) and governments (taxes, fees, fines, penalties) so that they can be relieved of the 'burden' of freedom endowed upon them at birth. "Throughout history people have demonstrated they prefer to pay churches and governments to take their freedom as opposed to keeping it for themselves. . . . "Fueled by revenues extracted from the responsibility-abdicating masses, the authority of organized religion and/or government inevitably grows larger and larger in the minds of their people. Eventually peoples' behavior becomes so influenced by the dictates of these outside forces they begin to do as they are told. They, in turn, teach their children how to behave in a society that rarely questions the intelligence or morality of the 'laws' under which they exist. "It is of utmost importance to understand the roots of the latest project of the organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), 'The Holocaust on your plate,' a campaign that morally equates killing chickens with the Holocaust. . . ."G.K. Chesterton said about a hundred years ago: 'When people stop believing in God, they don't believe in nothing, they believe in anything.' . . . "The death of God-based values is the major reason for the moral wasteland known as the university, the one place where America is regarded as a villain and the U.N. as morally progressive; where male and female are regarded as subjective constructs, not naturally distinctive identities; where Fidel Castro is a hero and Palestinian terrorists are freedom fighters. "And secularism explains the widespread belief in the equivalence of people and animals. The breakdown of belief in the God of the Bible has led to the demise of the belief in the sanctity of human life. If human beings are not regarded as created in God's image, but only in the image of animals, there is no reason to regard human life as worth more than that of an animal, including chickens. "It is not a coincidence that no mainstream Jewish or Christian denomination, no matter how liberal, agrees with PETA's campaign or teaches its adherents that humans and animals are of equal worth. You have to enter the moral chaos of full-blown secularism to believe that people burned alive, slowly frozen to death, medically experimented on, stripped naked and machine gunned family-by-family, forced to watch their children burned, or slowly asphyxiated in gas chambers suffer no more than slaughtered chickens, and that both acts are morally identical. It is impossible to believe in any normative expression of Judeo-Christian values and believe this. . . . "[T]he history department at Harvard University no longer offers a course on the American Revolution. In its place, it now offers a course on the history of midwives and quilting."Worse yet, mainstream historians are driven by a pernicious political agenda that seeks to elevate 'group rights' over individual rights. By sanctifying the stories of oppressed and 'marginalized' groups, historians subtly indoctrinate students with the idea that justice and rights are synonymous with one's group identity, be it one's race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. "But what of America's founding ideals, such as the principle of inalienable individual rights? "Ultimately, academic history is driven by a hatred of America and its ideals. It is common these days for students to be told that the colonization of North America represents an act of genocide; that the Founding Fathers were racist, sexist, 'classist,' 'homophobic,' Euro-centric bigots; that the winning of the American West was an act of capitalist pillage; that the so-called 'Robber Barons' forced widows and orphans into the streets; that hidden in the closets of most white Americans is a robe and hood. "To help put over this slander, historians dissolve American history into a chaotic hodge-podge of trivial stories about politically correct victim groups. It is no wonder that our children no longer learn the truly important facts about their nation's history. . . . "American children once learned about honesty from George Washington, justice from Thomas Jefferson, integrity from John Adams, independence from Daniel Boone, oratory from Daniel Webster, ingenuity from Thomas Edison, perseverance from the Wright Brothers, and courage from Sergeant York. "Now that you have paid your income taxes, calculate how much you own of your own labor. You can do this by dividing the federal, state and local income taxes you paid (including Social Security and Medicare) by your taxable income."Generally speaking, the higher your income, the less you own of yourself. A person with $300,000 in taxable income will discover that government in the year 2002 has a claim to about one-third of his labor -- the maximum tax that could be levied on a medieval serf. "If you have a low income or work primarily off the books, you will be rewarded with an 'earned income tax credit' -- that is, you will receive a tax 'refund' even though you paid no tax. You not only own all your own labor, but also have legal claims to the incomes of higher-income persons. "Democracy produces the opposite results of feudalism. Instead of an upper class living off the sweat of a lower class, the lower class lives off the sweat of an upper class. Philosophers such as John Rawls created a philosophy to justify the latter as 'moral' and the former as 'immoral,' but it all comes down to the same thing: some people live off other people's activities. "Income taxes are not the only taxes. There are property taxes, wealth taxes, excise taxes and sales taxes. If you add together all the taxes you paid, you might find that you own no more of your own income than a 19th century slave. "Since the 1960s, the American education system has been systematically dismembered and destroyed to the point where we're producing generation after generation of young people who don't have basic skills in reading, writing and comprehension. Beyond that they have no real body of knowledge about geography, history or civics. Americans who grew up in the 1850s and were educated in one-room schoolhouses were graduated with a better knowledge of civics and history than today's students."The schools have been turned into factories to produce graduates with 'proper attitudes' predetermined by the curriculum. "[A] working definition of slavery is that you work but do not have any rights to the fruit of your labor. Taxation and regulation constitute the confiscation of some or all of the freedom to own and use property. . . ."The federal cost of hiring 93,000 IRS employees is $6 billion. If these Americans weren't fooling around with the tax code, they could produce the entire annual output of the aircraft, trucking, auto, and food-processing industries combined. . . . "I was talking to my brother the other day about the 'law maker' problem. I pointed out that, since freedom is having the option to choose either to do, or not do, some activity, that every law destroys freedom. That is because every law negates some option. My brother's comment was that we should start calling 'law makers' what they really are -- freedom destroyers."After the aforementioned discussion we arrived at what seems to be the root of the problem with our lunatic government. In the old days, laws were passed to punish people who had deliberately harmed others. But today laws are being passed to punish people for being able to harm others. "Today the marriage rate is at its lowest point ever, the divorce rate is near its highest, and more children are living without their fathers than at any time in American history. Yet the prestigious American Law Institute (ALI), which exercises great influence on American jurisprudence, has just released a series of family law recommendations that would exacerbate these problems by trivializing the importance of marriage, encouraging divorce and accelerating fatherlessness."The marriage rate has dipped 40% over the last four decades and over a million couples divorce each year. A record 1.3 million babies were born out of wedlock in 1999, marking the first time in American history that a full third of all U.S. births were to unwed mothers. "Sociologists, economists, and child-welfare advocates agree that too many children are living without a father in the home, and the public echoes these sentiments. According to a 1996 Gallop poll, 79% of Americans believe that 'the most significant family or social problem facing America is the physical absence of the father from the home.' "Where have all the fathers gone? Maybe we should ask the family court system. Millions of decent fathers who have faithfully loved and supported their children have been downgraded to noncustodial parent status by courts that have stripped them of their natural right to the custody, care, and nurture of their own children. These fathers and the children who love them are victims of the greatest and least recognized problem in American family life today -- the epidemic of access and visitation denial which family courts often permit. "Rather than addressing these issues, the ALI's just released report, The Principles of the Law of Family Dissolution, instead proposes weakening marriage and families by giving incentives to spouses to leave their marriages and replace their children's biological parents. "Courts would reward this behavior by granting 'de facto parent' status to the cohabiting partner of a legal parent who has lived with that legal parent's children for two years and has performed caretaking functions. Thus noncustodial parents -- usually fathers -- could be forced to share custody of their own children with their ex-spouses' new boyfriends or girlfriends. . . . "[T]here are now three ideologies competing to shape the future of mankind. They are militant Islam, Western European secularism and socialism, and American Judeo-Christianity and capitalism. The first is being spread both peacefully and violently, the second is being spread peacefully, and the third is not being spread."Though most people ignore the fact, almost all of the world's believing Muslims believe that all of mankind should be Muslim. This, in and of itself, is not troubling -- after all, most Christians would like the whole world to be Christian, and most Westerners would like the whole world to [be] democratic. "Very few Americans understand the Liberal mind. Simply put, Liberals do not think, they feel. They feel sympathy, compassion, and they feel love for their fellow man. Theirs is a compassionate, well meaning, nice mind-set that wants good people to live in harmony and brotherly love. The Liberals cannot see the dreadful consequences of their actions; they can only deny that they are the cause."While all this seems nice, it totally avoids the facts of live. The most important thing about the Liberal mind is its complete refusal to face any facts. The Liberal makes excuses to remove facts that disagree with his feelings. Facing facts would require thinking. . . . "The cause of their folly is their wish that 'mankind is good by nature,' that there is some good in every man. This belief in the natural goodness in man leads to solutions for society's problems that not only do not work, but greatly magnify the problems. "The Liberal simply cannot understand that in his compassion for the AIDS victims he is demanding that they should have the right to spread the disease to others and not be quarantined (the only known method of combating an epidemic). Liberals have given the AIDS virus civil rights protection. "Their compassion for 'poor killers' has resulted in violence and fear in our streets. They believe that compassionate pleas will do the trick, that their love will reform the criminal; that taking away guns from the citizenry will save lives; that destroying religious beliefs that men are by nature evil will make people good. . . . "The Liberal believes (as did Marx, Engels, Stalin, Castro) that if he can erase the thoughts of society and replace them with the idea that man is by nature good, then men will learn to work hard, share, have compassion, be tolerant, and be law-abiding without the need for force. Liberals believe that if they could control the minds of one generation and erase greedy thoughts, intolerance, and teach the common good and brotherly love in a classless society, then men would become naturally good. "In a world of cultures in conflict, Islam possesses what may prove to be a decisive advantage over all others. It is built around a universal message, the Islamic religion, in which most participants in Islamic culture passionately believe. While China has organizational and technical skills that Islam lacks, it has no message that can even pretend to universal appeal. To be Chinese, you have to be born Chinese."The West has a universal message, the Christian religion. But the sad fact of the matter is, Western culture today is largely de-Christianized. Both pop culture and the mainstream elite culture, which was the counter-culture of the 1960s, are hostile to Christianity and especially to Christian morals. In Europe, the churches are empty (while increasingly, the mosques are full). Americans are still churchgoers, but even much churched Americans accept the secularization of public life. Religion is to be only a private matter, a vague kin to eczema or psoriasis. "As Russell Kirk wrote, culture comes from the cult. When the cult, the faith, that lies at the heart of a culture dies, the culture itself soon follows. If Christianity is not yet quite dead in the West, it is certainly prostrate on its sickbed. "Harvard, which accepted millions of dollars from the bin-Laden family fortune, refuses to allow students who accept scholarship money from the American military to train on campus. Some money, it seems, is too dirty for the 365-year-old school."Campuses once memorialized those who built our country. Today, they honor those who sought to destroy it. Rutgers and Penn State honored Paul Robeson, winner of the 1952 Stalin Peace Prize, by naming cultural centers for him. Angela Davis, a running mate of Gus Hall on the Communist Party presidential ticket and 1979 Lenin Peace Prize recipient, was awarded the University of California's highest academic honor, the Presidential Chair. For a time, a branch of the City University of New York even awarded $500 'Ho Chi Minh Scholarships' and 'Assata Skakur Schoolarships'; the former named for the Vietnamese dictator, the latter for a Marxist cop-killer now living in Cuba. In 1996, the tallest public building in the state of Massachusetts, the 26-story tower library on the campus of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, was named in honor of W.E.B. Du Bois, a Stalinist proponent of racial separation who renounced his American citizenship. New York's Bard College boasts an Alger Hiss Chair of Social Studies named for the Soviet spy and convicted perjurer. "All of this is usually done under the guise of an ideology falsely labeled 'multiculturalism.' Multiculturalism, as it exists on campus, is rarely about promoting other cultures. It is more often about debasing our own. . . . "Multiculturalists axiomatically state that all cultures are equal. Common sense tells us that they are not. Cultures are not equal because the worth of their contributions to the happiness and betterment of mankind vary. . . . "The tolerance that multiculturalists demand of Westerners looking at other cultures, they discourage among those inspecting our own society. In the multicultural vernacular, tolerance has a double-meaning. For Third World cultures it means uncritical appreciation and praise. For the First World, it means highlighting faults. However, the test of sovereignty under international law is given by the answer to the question: 'Are the edicts of the European Union regularly followed in the territories over which the EU claims governance?' If the answer to this factual question is 'yes,' then the European Union is the sovereign. "Many wonder what public choice model or theory of government behavior explains the willingness of national politicians to give up power by ceding sovereignty to the European Union. The surrender of sovereignty has dire implications for the British, because it means the end of the due process, habeas corpus and trial by jury protections to which they are accustomed." "The Declaration's statement of principles begins: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. . . .' . . . The important question is: equality in what sense? Humans obviously differ in intelligence, talents, beauty, strength, and many other attributes. What then did the Founders mean by calling human equality a 'self-evident truth'?"They meant something very definite: Human beings are equal in the life and liberty they are born with and deserve to keep. As stated in the first sentence of the Virginia Declaration of Rights of 1776, which became the model for several other states' Bills of Rights: 'all men are by nature equally free and independent.' "In other words, although human beings are unequal in many ways, no one human or class of humans is superior to another human or class of humans in the way that all humans, since they are rational creatures, are superior to dumb beasts. . . James Madison explains in The Federalist 54 that every human being, but no cow, is held morally accountable for violence committed against others, because every man is free to choose his behavior. To that extent, all men are equal and therefore deserve to be treated as such. . . . "The Progressive Era [liberal] denial of human nature and rejection of natural rights led to the adoption of a new goal for government: equal condition rather than equal rights. This goal requires the government to assign rights unequally. So far, it is primarily property rights that have been affected: redistribution of wealth is the operative mode of American government today. But government has also begun to reassign speech rights. Those who are thought too wealthy no longer have the right to publish whatever they wish. Government now limits that right through campaign finance laws. All this is counter to the principles of the founding.
