"Imagine how it would help the competitiveness of American exporters if U.S. companies could cut their prices an average of 19% in Europe and 17% in Asia. Imagine what it would also mean if foreign imports into the United State from overseas were raised by the same percentages.

"U.S. financial generosity to our allies after World War II included giving them special trade advantages to help them speed up their post-war recovery. We agreed that they could rebate to their producers any 'indirect' taxes they paid on goods they exported to us, and they could also impose an equal charge on any U.S. products they imported.

"Those nations recovered from World War II many years ago, but they still cling to what started out as a little advantage but has steadily increased to become a massively unfair advantage. The cost to U.S. producers increased to a whopping $327 billion in 2006.

"In practical terms, this means that the German manufacturer of a car exported to the United States gets a rebate from the German government equal to the indirect taxes paid in Germany, a type of tax called the Value Added Tax (VAT). Since the VAT rate in Germany is 19%, the German carmaker gets a 19% tax rebate on every vehicle exported to the United States. [. . .]

"A U.S. manufacturer exporting an auto to Germany must pay the German government a VAT equivalent tax of 19 percent of the price of the car plus 19 percent of all the costs of transportation, insurance, docking and duties involved in getting the car to Germany. The U.S. company gets no credit for corporate taxes it pays in the United States. [. . .]

"But that's not all. The VAT advantage also creates a perverse incentive for U.S. companies to move their plants and jobs to other countries so they, too, can take advantage of the VAT subsidy.

"Thousands of U.S. producers have already shifted their production overseas to get the same tax break, and more are ready to follow. Even companies that don't want to leave America have little choice when faced by competitors who move overseas and cut their prices. [. . .]

"Eli Lilly is doing major pharmaceutical research in India. Cisco Systems, the leading maker of communications equipment, will have 20 percent of its top talent in India within five years, and global-consulting giant Accenture will have more employees in India than in the United States by the end of this year. I.B.M. reduced its American work force by 31,000 while increasing its Indian staff to 52,000. Citigroup, which already has 22,000 employees in India, plans to eliminate 26,000 jobs in the U.S. and increase its Asian work force by another 10,000 where the pay is lower."

Imposing Values

"[A] measure of national well-being can be constructed by asking people to rate themselves on various scales of how happy they are. The results, at least at the national level, have no correlation with IQ. The smartest populations are no more likely than the stupidest to say they are happy. There is a modest correlation between happiness and per capita income -- extreme misery must make people unhappy -- and a weak one with life expectancy.

"If neither wealth nor intelligence [is] necessary for happiness, international development efforts may be misguided. It is hard, probably impossible, to drag most poor countries out of poverty. But if rich countries insist on believing it is their responsibility to help the poor, it may be possible to shore up whatever it is in poor countries that makes people happy.

"No one will try this, however, because the people of rich white countries think everyone wants to be just like [they are]: rich, urban, college educated, only moderately religious, sexually 'liberated,' and committed consumers who have small families and representative government. An inability to imagine that anything else could be fulfilling is part of the unacknowledged arrogance of the West. [. . .]

"[Authors] Richard Lynn and Tatu Vanhanen [of the book IQ and Global Inequality,] have gone straight to the heart of a vitally important question. They have shown the folly of trying to implement development policies without regard to the limits set by national IQ. Nations, just like individuals, differ dramatically in their abilities, and in the kind of instruction from which they can profit.

The Source of Muslim Rage

"[T]he real source of Muslim rage is the perceived atheism of America and the perceived moral depravity of its culture. What really angers the radical Muslims is that they believe that this secular immorality is being imposed on the Muslim world. [. . .]

"If America were to proclaim itself a Judeo-Christian society and stand up for the principles of traditional morality worldwide, this would greatly weaken the threat posed by radical Islam. I am not saying that the radical Muslims would be persuaded to stop hating us or attacking us. I am saying that they would lose their appeal among traditional Muslims. Currently traditional Islam is the main recruiting ground for radical Islam. Currently millions of traditional Muslims see America as an atheist, immoral society. They have no difficulty believing that American principles are antithetical to Islam in particular and religion in general. They may be wrong, but the side of America they see is the side that is projected by Hollywood and American popular culture. They see the values of 'blue America' and not 'red America.' So America can make immediate progress in the war of ideas by showing Muslims 'the other America.'

"There is no 'clash of civilizations' between the West and Islam. Rather, there are two clashes of civilizations. One is in the West between many secular Europeans and leftist Americans, on the one hand, and traditional conservatives on the other. The other clash is within the Muslim world, between traditional Muslims and the Islamic radicals. A traditional conservative in America would have more core values in common with a traditional Muslim in Egypt or Turkey than he would have with Michael Moore or Hillary Clinton. Conservatives should stop attacking Islam and the Prophet Muhammad because this only pushes traditional Muslims into the arms of the radical Muslims.

"There is a de facto alliance between the radical Muslims and the American left. Bin Laden uses the term 'convergence of interests.' I am not saying the two parties collaborate. But they have a shared interest in destroying Bush and defeating the War on Terror. So Bin Laden and the American left work in a kind of scissors motion, separately, but toward the same end. The Bin Laden folk supply the terror, and the left uses the terror to demoralize the American people into supporting a retreat from Iraq. It may seem paradoxical that religious fanatics like Bin Laden would work with secular leftists in this way. Or those leftists would cooperate with Bin Laden. But both sides are pursuing a goal that neither could achieve on their own. Recall, too, that Al Qaeda has no hesitation in working with the secular Baathists in Iraq to expel the Americans. These are political alliances between two groups that have nothing in common except a desire to successfully prosecute 'the war against the war on terror.'"

Both claim that centralized government control over economic activity is essential. The Reds wanted it for the alleged sake of achieving human prosperity; the Greens for the alleged sake of avoiding environmental damage.

"[W]hat we're witnessing right now is a rigid global-warming orthodoxy permeating the would-be ruling class. Scientists and climatologists who dare question the unquestionable are openly ridiculed, censored and threatened with decertification and professional disgrace. The National Education Association Leftist Agenda

Al Gore!), and population-control guru Paul Ehrlich wants to eliminate all humans.

The Effects of Ritalin

"Psychologists will lie to you. They will tell you that Ritalin is not addictive. It is. It affects the mind. It affects the body. It can cause depression. The reaction to Ritalin by the brain is exactly the same as that of cocaine, except cocaine is shorter acting. It changes the child. Research is showing that Ritalin use is a common factor among many of the students who have walked into their schools and opened fire, indicating that Ritalin brings children to violence.

"Children are dying from Ritalin use. According to Ritalin critic, Dr. Baughman, of 2,993 adverse reaction reports concerning Ritalin listed by the FDA from 1990 to 1997, there were 160 deaths and 569 hospitalizations, 36 of them life-threatening. Ritalin is known to cause cardiac arrhythmia, tachycardia and hypertension. Research has proven that Ritalin and other amphetamines can interfere with body phospholipid chemistry (complex fat), causing the accumulation of abnormal membranes visible with an electronic microscope. [. . .]

"Some parents report that in the beginning, Ritalin seems to help children focus and begin to learn. But there is evidence that, over time, the drug builds up in the system causing depression and violent mood swings. In many cases, after being on the drug for several years children actually forget how to live without it. If taken off the drug they have reported feeling lost, frightened, even paranoid. This can lead the child to eventually experiment with illegal drugs in an attempt to 'feel normal' again. Research has shown that children on Ritalin are three times more likely to develop a taste for cocaine. So as the psychologists continue to invade the classrooms in ever increasing numbers, ask yourself why the drug culture is growing by ever-larger numbers through ever-younger children."

Guarding Against School Failure

"Beyond the available funding [from the federal government], there is also a side-bonus for the schools [to focus on students' mental problems]. If a child has a learning disorder, the schools can't be held responsible for the fact that the student can't learn. Bad teachers, failed curriculum and federal programs can't be blamed for the failure of the student to learn. They've created an efficient system to protect themselves. It works like this: If a child has trouble with math, he is deemed to have a mental disorder under code number 315.1 -- 'Mathematics Disorder;' If the child can't write literature composition, she must be suffering from code 315.2 -- 'Disorder of Written Expression;' If the student can't read, then he is obviously suffering from code 315 -- 'Reading Disorder.' As stated, the whole industry is well protected -- and well paid.

"So the schools join in full cooperation with the psychologists to label millions of children with learning disorders. Teachers, with no medical credentials, serve as the unofficial recruiter and perform 'pop-psychology' in the classroom to decide what children might have ADD.

"Johnny is in the fifth grade, but only reads at a first grade level. Not the school's fault. Johnny must be 'dyslexic' or could have ADD. The teacher now becomes a brain diagnostician who decides who will be tested and who will be referred for special education or who is ineducable without Ritalin. The teacher reports these 'findings' to the school administration and the wheels of control begin to turn against the child and the parents.

"Woe be the child or parents who dare resist. The 'team' now convenes -- all for the good of the child, of course. The weight of consensus is brought to bear. Woe be the doctor who doesn't agree with the findings. One who does will be found. Once treatment has been decided, the drugs are issued and the team is increased to include in-home social workers and the in-school clinics. The child is now community property. Now you know the true meaning of the term 'it takes a village,' and the process to make it so."

Wishing Doesn't Make It So

"[Senator Barack] Obama told his audience [in an address March 4, 2007 at the Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Selma, Alabama] that because some folks had the courage to 'march across a bridge' in Selma, Ala., his mother, a white woman from Kansas, and his father, a black Muslim from Africa, took heart. It gave them the courage to get married and have a child. The problem with that characterization is that Barack Obama, Jr. was born Aug. 4, 1961, while the first of three marches across that bridge in Selma didn't occur until March 7, 1965, almost four years after Obama was born.

"Obama went on to tell his audience that the Kennedys -- Jack and Bobby -- decided to do an airlift. They would bring some young Africans over so that they could be educated and learn all about America. His grandfather heard that call and sent his son, Barack Obama, Sr., to America.

"The problem with that scenario is that, having been born in August 1961, the future senator was not conceived until sometime in November 1960. So, if his African grandfather heard words that 'sent a shout across oceans,' inspiring him to send his goat-herder son to America, it was not Democrat Jack Kennedy he heard, or his brother Bobby, it was Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

"Obama's speech is reminiscent of Al Gore's claim of having invented the Internet, Hillary Clinton's claim of having been named after the first man to climb Mt. Everest (even though she was born five years and seven months before Sir Edmund climbed the mountain), and John Kerry's imaginary trip to Cambodia."

Poison Pills

"As education restructuring grew into a full-blown behavior-modification assault designed to change the attitudes, values and beliefs of the children, a key element to the process was to turn healthy children into 'patients.' By diagnosing a child to have a mental disorder like ADD/ADHD, the school could gain federal funds. It's a growth industry.

"In 1965, the passage of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), [. . .] changed education forever as the seeds for today's massive restructuring -- away from academics to behavior modification -- began. It was psychology's crowning moment. The ESEA allocated massive federal funds and opened school doors to a flood of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and the psychiatric programs and testing needed to validate them. The number of educational psychologists in the U.S. increased from 455 in 1969 to 16,146 in 1992. As of 1994, child psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors and special educators in and around U.S. public schools nearly out-number teachers.

"In 1991, eligibility rules for federal education grants were changed to provide schools with $400 in annual grant money for each child diagnosed with ADHD. [. . .]

"Today more than 7,000,000 children have been labeled, stamped and registered as permanent patients of the school system. Ten to 12 percent of all boys between the ages of 6 and 14 in the United States have been diagnosed as having ADD. One in every 30 Americans between the ages of 5 and 19 years old has a prescription to Ritalin. Psychologists have never had it so good. The federal trough has been very good for their industry.

"With more than half of those 7,000,000 children also prescribed Ritalin, the stock-market value of its manufacturer, the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis, has also soared. Now that company and others are working to introduce a host of new drugs into the classroom, including Prozac and Luvox, which has just been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for pediatric use. Now the industry is looking to even greater growth as pre-school toddlers are being targeted by the pill brigade. The use of psychotropic drugs, like anti-depressants and stimulants, in 2-to-4-year olds doubled or even tripled between 1991 and 1995. [. . .]

"Ritalin is early training to introduce children to drug abuse. Today, Ritalin is fast becoming the drug of choice by college students who were brought up on it. Reports from college campuses across the nation indicate that Ritalin use has become as popular as Coca Cola and coffee as a study aid."

"[T]he Union of Concerned Scientists is a highly partisan operation, well funded by left-leaning foundations and Hollywood celebrities and happy to ignore established scientific methodologies for its own purposes[. . .] The group has a long history of being just plain wrong on many scientific issues, and its current agenda conforms to the extremes of environmentalist ideology. Moreover, UCS is neither representative of the scientific community at large nor is it a gathering of top scientists. "The track record of the Union of Concerned Scientists is bursting with examples of how it puts politics ahead of science. [. . .]

"UCS organized opposition to President Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) in the 1980s, fearing that it would push the world to war. But history showed otherwise. [. . .] In 1980, UCS claimed that 'It is now abundantly clear that the world has entered a period of chronic energy shortages.' As is now abundantly clear, known energy reserves are higher than ever. [. . .] More recently, UCS has been consistently wrong in its stated concerns about genetically modified crops. [. . .]

"In other matters -- abortion, suburban 'sprawl' and the war in Iraq -- UCS stakes out policy positions that are predictably those of a far-left pressure group. [. . .]

"The Union of Concerned Scientists is not about to relent on its green climate crusade. Yet UCS does not speak for the scientific community. Instead it is a well-funded, left-wing pressure group, which politicizes science while claiming to be its true guardian."

Killing Man to Save Animals

Environmentalists' jihad against DDT sentenced millions to death from malaria in the Third World, their opposition to dams destroyed New Orleans, and their abasement of auto safety has mangled and killed tens of thousands. Even the World Trade Center towers destroyed on 9/11 would have remained standing far longer, enabling more people to escape, if it were not for an environmentalist scare about the most efficient fire retardant known to man for millennia. "As the evidence in Berlau's book [Eco-Freaks: Environmentalism Is Hazardous to Your Health, November 2006] makes clear, hatred of the human race lies at the bottom of the environmentalist agenda. This is not to say that there are no pressing environmentalist concerns, from mercury pollution to Latin American deforestation -- but genuine concerns are based on human welfare, not the pagan worship of harsh, wild nature indifferent to life that not even radical environmentalists want to live in personally. "It is true that we need a return to nature, but not to the primitive bestial nature that murderous environmentalists desire. North American Union

"Though there has been no national debate on merger with the corruption and socialism of our neighbors to the north and south, there is a roadmap. And unless the American people rise up in righteous indignation against this plan, the roadmap to merger will become the inevitable, guiding force in setting U.S. policy.

"[A]nti-parent, pro-public-school decisions [have been] handed down in five circuits within the last two years. Federal courts upheld the right of public schools to indoctrinate students in Muslim religion and practices, to force students to watch a one-hour pro-homosexual video, to force students to attend a program advocating homosexual conduct that used minors in sexually suggestive skits, to censor any mention of Intelligent Design, to use classroom materials that parents consider pornography, to force students to answer nosy questionnaires with suggestive questions about sex, drugs and suicide, and to deny a father's right to get his son's school records.

"This is not only a culture issue; it is a free speech issue. Public schools are censoring views that do not conform to the diversity/multiculturalism culture. The courts upheld the public schools in prohibiting an anti-gay T-shirt, but ordered a school to permit a very offensive anti-Bush T-shirt.

"The courts have upheld the constitutional right of any school child to refuse to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, but neither school nor court offered any child or parent the right to opt out of any of the offensive programs listed above.

"It's not a question of whether, or if, government should or will define our culture. Government schools are every day defining the culture of the nation our children will live in, by inculcating the values of diversity, multiculturalism, American guilt, situation ethics, and easy acceptance of sex outside of marriage. There is no proof that the American people have democratically chosen this definition of our culture. It is being done with the power of government employees spending the people's money. [. . .]

"Despite widespread parental opposition, in October 1999, Bill Clinton's Department of Education officially endorsed ten new math courses, based on the 1989 'standards,' for grades K-12, calling them 'exemplary' or 'promising.' "One of these department-approved 'exemplary' courses, 'Math Land,' directed the children to meet in small groups and invent their own ways to add, subtract, multiply and divide. "Before the 1989 mistake, U.S. students ranked number one in international mathematics tests. Since then, U.S. students have dropped to fifteenth, far behind the consistently high performance of most industrialized countries."

"Here is a sampling of some of the errors and misrepresentations made by [Al] Gore in [his Oscar-nominated movie] An Inconvenient Truth:

· He promoted the now-debunked 'hockey stick' temperature chart in an attempt to prove man's overwhelming impact on the climate.
· He attempted to minimize the significance of the Medieval Warm period and the Little Ice Age.
· He insisted on a link between increased hurricane activity and global warming that most scientists believe does not exist.
· He asserted that today's Arctic is experiencing unprecedented warmth while ignoring that temperatures in the 1930s were as warm or wanner.
· He claimed the Antarctic was warming and losing ice but failed to note that is true only of a small region and the vast bulk has been cooling and gaining ice.
· He hyped unfounded fears that Greenland's ice is in danger of disappearing.
· He erroneously claimed that the ice cap on Mt. Kilimanjaro is disappearing due to global warming, even while the region cools and researchers blame the ice loss on local land-use practices.
· He made assertions of a massive future sea-level rise that is way outside any supposed scientific 'consensus' and is not supported in even the most alarmist literature.
· He incorrectly implied that a Peruvian glacier's retreat is due to global warming, while ignoring the fact that the region has been cooling since the 1930s and other glaciers in South America are advancing.
· He blamed global warming for water loss in Africa's Lake Chad, despite NASA scientists' concluding that local population and grazing factors are the more likely culprits.
· He inaccurately claimed polar bears are drowning in significant numbers due to melting ice when in fact they are thriving.
· He failed to inform viewers that the 48 scientists who accused President Bush of distorting science were part of a political advocacy group set up to support Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004.

"Laurie Taylor is the mother of two school age children. She lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Like most parents, she cares about her kids' education. So, when she discovered the school library had a sexually explicit book, It's Perfectly Normal, aimed at elementary age students, she did what any concerned parent would do: she went to the administration and asked that it be removed, along with two other books with similar themes. [. . .]

"Some of the [school library] books include graphic descriptions of incest, homosexuality, masturbation, bestiality, and child molestation. For instance, Push is the story of a young girl who is pregnant with her father's child. [. . .]

"Another book is advertised as being 'the most controversial young adult novel ever,' and describes an adolescent boy's love affair with a teacher, and two teens who become addicted to heroin. Oh, and by the way, the book won an award as 'an outstanding book for children.'

"Yet another book proudly displayed on the Fayetteville library shelves was once featured in Playboy magazine. Its vile and sexually explicit content is interspersed with dialogue such as this: 'Just keep asking yourself: What would Jesus not do?' [. . .]

"But Fayetteville is a college town, and liberals turned out in droves to cry 'censorship' and shout down Laurie Taylor's courageous efforts to protect the children."

"The cost of a college education has never been higher, and admissions standards have never been 1ower, but the entire calculus has changed. The university campus is no longer that idyllic place of the imagination, where callow youths are educated and prepared for life in the real world. The campus is, indeed, a place of radical transformation, bur not the kind that most parents expect.

"To put it plainly, the university is not a safe place to send your child. The reason is that the university is only marginally about education today. [. . .]

"[H]igher education today is now a pretext for concentrating large numbers of unsuspecting and often poorly prepared students on campuses, away from their families and other mediating influences, where they may be socialized and manipulated by leftist faculty members and administrators for purely ideological reasons. Since the social revolution of the 1960s, the agenda of the Left has been to transform the United States into a socialist utopia; consequently, the issue of greatest concern on America's most distinguished university campuses is no longer traditional learning, but a new form of social and sexual indoctrination. "[University] administrators exercise absolute control over students, [and in this environment] one finds the enforcers of political correctness, the mandatory sensitivity classes, the seminars on race and gender, and the encounter sessions through which students are indoctrinated, often by invasive and manipulative means, including various kinds of role-playing, in the dogmas of 'diversify' and 'tolerance' that are a mask for the anti-American and hyper-sexualized agenda of the universities. "Solving" our Energy Dependence Problem

"The never-ending mantra from the greens is the need for alternative energies such as wind, corn, solar and hydrogen. The Bush Administration has taken up the chant in its many energy policy initiatives as a way to 'break our addiction on foreign oil.' But, as usual, the rhetoric sounds good, the reality is outrageous.

"Americans saw oil prices skyrocket [in 2006] to well over $3.00 per gallon. What many don't know is one of the reasons for the dramatic price rise was the enforcement of a provision of [the 2005] energy bill which mandated the use of ethanol in gasoline mixtures. The process forced an immediate surge of gas prices.

"Worse, using ethanol as a means to save energy is, like most environmental schemes, a false hope. That's because ethanol, a corn-based fuel, requires 29 percent more fossil fuel energy to make than it yields in energy use. Moreover, current levels of domestic corn production could not meet both American food and energy needs.

"To get around that inconvenient lack of domestic corn to enforce the politically-correct energy policy, the Bush Administration has a solution. Buy the ethanol from Communist China. On September 4th, Reuters news service reported that China would export from 500,000 to 900,000 tons of ethanol. 'Most of the ethanol cargoes go directly to the United States.'"

The Origin of Science

"Not only is modern science a Christian blessing to the world, not only did it develop in the midst of Christianity, it also could have developed nowhere else. It could not have come into existence, for example, among the animists who worship rocks and trees and monkeys and things, supposing that all of these have gods in them.

"Science could not have developed among those who worship Allah because of Islam's belief in fatalism, the idea that everything is predetermined, that no matter how hard mankind tries to change things, whatever will be will be. The purpose of science is to inquire, test hypotheses, and find ways to apply knowledge; those activities would be considered futile in a world controlled by fatalism. Science would never have been birthed in India or among the Buddhists or Hindus because of their belief that the world is an illusion. You don't spend your whole life studying and working with an illusion.

"Science could have developed only in a Christian civilization -- although there were incipient beginnings in ancient Greece, but those activities did not lead to the kind of beneficial science that we know as modern science. Modern science began in Christian civilization in Western Europe in the late Middle Ages.

"Modern science could not even have risen in our modern culture because modern man rejects the notion of absolutes; therefore he rejects the very foundation of science."

National Council of Churches

"Founded in 1950, the New York City-based NCC [National Council of Churches] has, for more than half a century, remained faithful to the legacy of its forerunner, the Communist front-group known as the Federal Council of Churches. At one time an unabashed apostle of the Communist cause, the NCC has today recast itself as a leading representative of the so-called religious left. Adhering to what it has described as 'liberation theology' -- that is, Marxist ideology disguised as Christianity -- the NCC lays claim to a membership of 36 Protestant, Anglican and Orthodox Christian denominations, and some 50 million members in over 140,000 congregations.

"Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the NCC has soft-pedaled its radical message, dressing up its demands for global collectivization and its rejection of democratic capitalism in the garb of religious teachings. Yet the organization's history suggests that it was -- and remains -- a devout backer of a gallery of socialist governments. [. . .]

"The Republicans gave us School to Work, Goals 2000 and the Workforce Development Act. These three Acts completely transformed America's public schools, away from local control to become federal outlets. Federal curriculums were mandated. Federal textbooks were created. Parents lost control of their children's education.

"The Republicans put the United States back in the UN's UNESCO. This snake pit of globalism is responsible for anti-American curriculum that promotes global citizenship over American. President Bush's Secretary of Education Rod Page told a UNESCO gathering that the No Child Left Behind Act is in complete compliance with UNESCO global education policy.

"Under Republican control, not one single executive order signed by Bill Clinton to impose UN environmental Polices was rescinded or reversed. Bill Clinton used his pen to almost fully implement the UN's Biodiversity Treaty, even though it was never ratified by the Senate. The Republicans, through the Bush White House, continue to enforce the policy of Sustainable Development from the UN's Agenda 21 policy. Under the Republicans it continues to be official federal government policy. That policy represents a massive government control of private property and local community decisions. [. . .]

"Under the Republicans, the federal government spent $2.47 trillion in 2005 -- up 49% since 1995. The deficit of $400 billion is the largest in history. In 1995 the public debt limit was $4.9 trillion. Today it's $8.2 trillion (up 67%). These increases are not a result of war or a bad economy. It's simply government out of control.

"Now, this year, we learn that the Republican Administration is working secretly to implement a North American Union, which will destroy our very national identity and sovereignty by 'harmonizing' our borders with Canada and Mexico.

"Is this the nation the Republican faithful envisioned as they celebrated the Republican victory in 1994? Of course not. It is a betrayal of unbelievable proportions. And that's why the Republicans lost. They deserved it."
