There are so many basic unanswered questions on how they (clouds) work.' And that is never mentioned in the great 'global warming' debate, one we are continuously told is 'decided,' and upon which there is a vast scientific 'consensus.' [. . .]

"[C]loud droplets can last for less than a second, while whole clouds can live out their lives in minutes or days. There is no way to integrate such massive, constant change into a computer model that divides the world into boxes up to sixty miles on a side -- so they mostly do not. [. . .]

"[C]omputer models on which 'global warming' claims have been made have actually been tweaked, adjusted, manipulated -- take your choice of terms -- to factor in the mystery of clouds. [. . .]

"In an August 2002 article, 'The Trouble with the Weather,' the European Space Agency noted that, 'Forecasting the weather remains notoriously difficult because the atmosphere is not easy to predict, being affected by such factors as air pressure and temperature, air movements, the distribution of water in its various states (clouds) in the atmosphere, and static electricity stored in the air.' "Neither clouds, nor volcanoes, nor the most important factor, the Sun, is credited as responsible for either the climate or the weather. Instead, we are constantly told that 'human activity' is the single cause."

Some colleagues who share some of my doubts [about global warming claims] argue that the only way to get our society to change is to frighten people with the possibility of a catastrophe, and that therefore it is all right and even necessary for scientists to exaggerate. [. . .] "Wolves deceive their prey, don't they?" one said to me recently. Therefore, biologically, he said, we are justified in exaggerating to get society to change. [. . .]

Mexicanization of the U.S.

"On September 6 at 9 pm. the Bush Administration opened up all U.S. highways and roads to Mexican trucks and drivers. That gave the green light to the first 38 of up to 100 Mexican trucking companies, and nobody knows how many thousands of Mexican trucks will eventually drive on our roads. [. . .]

"We have no way of knowing if Mexican drivers are criminals or terrorists or drug peddlers or accident-prone, since Mexico doesn't have nationwide criminal or driving-record databases. [. . .]

"U.S. drivers are limited to ten consecutive hours of service, but Mexican drivers typically drive up to 20 hours a day. [. . .]

"Only one or two percent of trucks coming across the border are inspected. The smugglers of illegal drugs, products, and people can just consider it a cost of doing business that so few illegal loads will be caught. [. . .]

"The only rational explanation of Bush's stubborn determination to override the wishes of the American people by opening up all our roads to Mexican trucks is that this is an essential part or his plan for the economic integration of the United States into a North American Community. The only rational explanation of Bush's refusal to build the fence [along our border with Mexico] is that he has no intention of stopping the flow of illegal aliens across our Southern border."

The Influence of Karl Marx Lives On

"They spawned many of the disasters that have damaged the U.S. in the past 50 years: the radical 'civil rights' movement, which brought in anti-white 'affinnative action'; radical feminism which has attacked the traditional American family and led to a sky-high divorce rate and a below-replacement birth-rate -- one reason, we're told, we need the massive Third World immigration which is changing America forever from the nation built by our European ancestors. Charity Will Never Solve Poverty

"For more than fifty years governments and charities have been focused on rushing aid to the poor and starving. [. . .]

"Most of the current anti-poverty efforts focus on redistributing funds from wealthier nations to poorer ones, either through mandatory taxation or charitable donations. This system ignores the fact that tomorrow the poor need to be fed again. Taxpayers or the voluntary donor must dig into his own funds yet again to help. [. . .]

"[A]s massive funds are moved in and out of governments, bureaucracies are institutionalized to run the system. More and more money goes to feed the machinery of poverty than gets into the hands of the intended poor. [. . .]

"[T]he laws and practices of most countries in the world make it nearly impossible for average citizens to own property or to prove ownership of property. There are vast obstacles to gaining legal ownership. For example, in Mexico it takes twenty years before a piece of property can be recorded. In Peru it took [a] team of experts 289 days to legally register a new business, even after paying over $1,200 in registration fees. In the Philippines a prospective property owner would first have to organize an association with his neighbors in order to qualify for a state housing finance program. The entire process could take 168 steps, involving 53 public and private agencies and taking 13-25 years. And so it goes in country after country.

"The impact of a fee of $1,200 in a poor nation is enough to forever discourage even the attempt to register property. Such an amount, in many developing countries may equal an entire year's income. It is important to note the impact free markets and private property have on the income of a nation's citizens. The per capita income for Americans is $41,400 per year. For Europeans, where more government control is exercised, the per capita income is $27,400. In the farmer Communist nations of Eastern Europe it is now $3,295. [. . .] As more freedom and greater ability to own property grows, so does the per capita income.

"If ownership of property cannot be properly recorded and able to be traced directly to the owner, then it cannot create equity and cannot be used as collateral for credit. It is not of value to the owner, only an expense. This situation has created, in [one] estimate, over $9.3 trillion in 'dead property.' That is property that cannot be used by anyone to create equity and therefore wealth. [. . .]

"This then is the hidden secret of why the West is so wealthy and the rest of the world is mired in poverty. [. . .]

"Eradication of poverty in the world won't come from endless aid designed for mere existence, nor will it come from simply providing jobs. The answer to poverty in the world will come only from providing the tools needed to create new, independent wealth. That tool is private property ownership." Milking Animals

"Perhaps more than any other public interest group in America, the radical animal 'rights' organizations have two faces. There's the one they present to the public and (more importantly) to potential donors. Then there's the other face, the true one, which encompasses a philosophy that is more anti-human than pro-animal.

"The two largest and best-funded animal 'rights' groups, Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), both rely on financial support that often comes from people who have no idea what their real agendas are. In many cases, that support is based on misunderstanding, or even deception.

"HSUS has long benefited from the use of the term 'humane society." Many erroneously believe HSUS operates animal shelters, rescue groups and other animal welfare operations. Well-meaning people give money, thinking they are assisting the operation of these local and regional organizations that do so much to help animals. However, the truth is HSUS has never operated an animal shelter of any kind. Ever. And PETA employees have been arrested, prosecuted and convicted for illegally disposing of animals killed in its 'shelter' operations. [. . .]

"PETA has gone to great lengths to indoctrinate kids and young adults by creating materials, including comic books and videos, that teach its radical agenda, and then getting sympathetic teachers to use those materials in the classroom. One of PETA's comic books proclaims on the cover, 'Your Daddy Kills Animals!' and warns kids to keep the family dog away from him. Why? Because dad is a fisherman.

"PETA's PR machine is relentless. PETA selects a 'vegetarian of the year' from among notable celebrities and presents that person as a rule model for children. Each year it attacks restaurant chains that serve meat, circuses that have animal acts and, of course, any pharmaceutical company that uses animals to develop life-saving medicines."

The Greening of God

From time to time, conservative politicians and moral entrepreneurs have attempted to launch back-to-basics crusades promoting 'family values.' However, their lack of popular appeal has only exposed society's estrangement from these traditions. [. . .]

"Forced onto the defensive and sensitive to the charge of being out of touch with public concerns, Western religions have looked for new ways of rebuilding their authority. [. . .]

"In recent years, some in the church have sought to gain the public's ear through the greening of traditional doctrines, and Christ the Savior is fast becoming Christ the environmental activist. Western society is continually in search of rituals and symbols through which moral probity can be affirmed. It appears that, for many church leaders, the project of saving the planet offers more opportunities for reconstituting rituals and symbols than the saving of souls."

Bashing Males

"The gender police have already ruined college sports for many men, forcing the senseless elimination of 171 wrestling teams to reduce the overall proportion of men to women on college athletic teams. Fresh from that attack on masculinity, the new targets are math and science departments.

"Universities know all too well how this game is played and have every reason to fear the worst. Just one feminist lawsuit can have a devastating effect on most universities, both financially and in adverse publicity.

"An internal Title IX regulation invented by Carter and Clinton administration feminists established the 'proportionality' of men and women enrolled in a college as the bean-counting goal for the proportion of men and women on sports teams. If the percentage of men on sports teams is too high, then the college can expect to be sued for gender discrimination, even though men are far more interested in sports than women. If the college loses the lawsuit, it must pay the feminist lawyers' attorney's fees. This encourages lawsuits and has resulted in million-dollar paydays at the expense of schools that rely on donations to stay afloat.

"The Bush Administration is now getting ready to apply this same mindless mentality to math and science departments, which are predominately male because men are more interested in those fields than women and score significantly higher on math and science aptitude tests. The National Science Foundation (NSF) has an ADVANCE program that is already spending $75 million over five years to lure more women into science and engineering. [. . .]

"The feminists want a quota-imposed unisex society regardless of the facts of life, voluntary choice, human nature, common sense, or documented merit. They use the power of government to achieve their goal. [. . .]

"Meanwhile, the Bush Administration ignores the gender disparity that is having a very harmful consequence: the precipitous decline in male schoolteachers. The number of male public school teachers has fallen to only 20%, and at the elementary school level fewer than 10% of teachers are men, giving boys the distinct impression that school is not for them."

The Culture of Legal Drugs

"The front page of the New York Times just described Stephen, age 15, who takes antidepressants Zaloft and Desyrel, plus anticonvulsant Lamictal to moderate his moods, plus the stimulant Focalin XR to improve concentration. His brother Jacob, age 14, takes Focalin XR for concentration, plus the anticonvulsant Depakote to moderate his moods, plus the antipsychotic Risperdal to reduce anger, plus Catapres to induce sleep.

"Over the last three years, each boy has been prescribed 28 different psychiatric drugs and has seen 11 psychiatrists. Gone are the days when a visit to a psychiatrist meant lying on a couch to recite your troubles. Treatment today means taking prescription drugs, lots of them.

"More than 3 million children are using the most commonly prescribed drug, Ritalin, and it is routinely combined with other drugs. Last year, 1.6 million children and teenagers were given at least two psychiatric drugs in combination, and 500,000 were given at least three.

"The Food and Drug Administration requires manufacturers to prove the safety of each drug. But hardly any studies have examined the safety or effectiveness of drugs used in combination. [. . .]

"There are no studies showing long-term safety of psychiatric drugs used on children or the effect on children's developing brains and bodies. The vast majority of these drugs are not FDA-approved for use in children, but they are prescribed for children nevertheless.

"Two of the three classes of these drugs are under the FDA's stringent warnings for suicide and violence. They also interfere with learning, causing violence, neurological problems, diabetes and heart attacks. [. . .]

"ADHD [has been] classified as a disability and a federal cash incentive program was initiated for low-income families with children who are said to have ADHD. A family could get $450 a month for each child diagnosed with ADHD, with the cost of treatment and medication for low-income children covered by Medicaid. [. . .]

"The U.S. Department of Education classified ADHD as a handicap, and in 1991 schools began receiving education grants of $400 a year for each ADHD child.

"Since labeling kids ADHD brings more money to the schools, it's not surprising that schools often pressure parents to get an ADHD diagnosis and put their child on Ritalin. Schools have also found it useful to deal with behavioral and discipline problems by giving boys a drug to get them to sit down, shut up, and do what they're told. [. . .]

"Instead of dealing with the over-prescription of drug cocktails for children, our government is telling us we have a mental health crisis, and the remedy is universal mental health screening. A major government campaign is now underway, sweetened with federal grants, to subject all children to mental health screening.

"The screening usually means having the child fill out a survey about his own behavior. If his answers don't comport with what the so-called experts want, the kid can be referred for treatment, and treatment usually includes medication."

The Spotted Owl: Another Environmental Deception

"Spotted owls, we were told a decade ago, were disappearing because big bad timber companies were cutting down 'old growth' forests. So the environmental movement rushed to the forests, hugged the trees and issued news releases to decry the evils of the logging industry. Save the owl. Save the trees. Kill the timber industry.

"Of course, that was exactly the point. Kill the timber industry. As a result of the hysteria to save the 'endangered' owls, U.S. timber sales were reduced by 80-90%, forcing saw mills to close, loggers to go broke and whole towns which depended on the industry to literally disappear. The federal crackdown on the industry caused a shift in U.S. domestic lumber supplies to foreign soils. In short, American industry suffered in the name of protecting the spotted owl. Turns out [the assertion spotted owls were in danger] wasn't true. [. . .]

"[T]he primary threat to northern spotted owls [was] competition with barred owls. [B]arred owls are less selective about the habitat they use and the prey they feed upon and are out-competing northern spotted owls for habitat and food, causing [northern spotted owl numbers to] decline. [. . .]

"[Actually,] the spotted owl is only a sub-species of Mexican spotted owls, which are not endangered at all. [. . .]

"What was accomplished during the ten-year fight besides the destruction of an entire industry? The establishment of a very radical and dangerous political agenda called the environmental movement. Its power is now so great that no politician dare oppose [it]. Yet, that power, we now know for certain, was built on a lie." [Question: Think there's any parallel with global warming today?]

The Global Warming Scare

"We asked the important question of whether there is appreciable man-made warming today. We presented evidence that indicates there is not, thereby suggesting that attempts by governments to control greenhouse-gas emissions are pointless and unwise. Nevertheless. we have state governors calling for CO2 emissions limits on cars; we have city mayors calling for mandatory CO2 controls; we have the Supreme Court declaring CO2 a pollutant that may have to be regulated; we have every industrialized nation (with the exception of the U.S. and Australia) signed on to the Kyoto Protocol; and we have ongoing international demands for even more stringent controls when Kyoto expires in 2012. What's going on here? [. . .]

"It is [. . .] worth noting that tens of thousands of interested persons benefit directly from the global warming scare -- at the expense of the ordinary consumer. Environmental organizations globally, such as Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, and the Environmental Defense Fund, have raked in billions of dollars. Multi-billion-dollar government subsidies for useless mitigation schemes are large and growing. Emission trading programs will soon reach the $100 billion a year level, with large fees paid to brokers and those who operate the scams. In other words, many people have discovered they can benefit from climate scares and have formed an entrenched interest. [. . .]

"The irony is that a slightly warmer climate with more carbon dioxide is in many ways beneficial rather than damaging. Economic studies have demonstrated that a modest warming and higher CO2 levels will increase GNP and raise standards of living, primarily by improving agriculture and forestry. It's a well-known fact that CO2 is plant food and essential to the growth of crops and trees -- and ultimately to the well-being of animals and humans."

"This is because in traditional Islamic law, the invitation to Islam must precede an attack on non-Muslims. Says Muhammad: 'When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam. If they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them. . . . If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya [the poll tax on non-Muslims]. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah's help and fight them' (Sahih Muslim 4294). [. . .]

Multiculturalism

A Tale of Two Countries

"All political factions in Mexico are united in the view that the US-Mexican border is illegitimate, and that Mexicans have the right to cross it any time. Former president Vicente Fox's official view was that any measures the United States took to catch or deport illegal immigrants were a violation of human rights. Felipe Calderon, who succeeded him in 2006, shared that view, adding, 'like many. . . I have cousins, uncles, in-laws who are undocumented and live in the United Stares." [. . .]

"Grupo Bela is a government-funded organization set up in the early 1990s to help illegal border-crossers. It maintains hundreds of staging areas just south of the border, marked with blue pennants to indicate that drinking water is available. Mexicans planning a run for the horder can flag down its bright orange trucks any time for help. [. . .]

"The Mexican state of Peubla has gone even further. In late 2006, it announced an innovative program to keep emigrants from getting lost when they cross the border illegally. Jaime Obregon, the coordinator for the Commission for Migrants, said the state would give handheld satellite navigation devices to anyone who registered as a border-crosser. [. . .]

"Latin American countries, themselves, carefully control their borders, but their governments insist that the United States remain open. [. . .]

"Every Mexican institution nurtures unfavorable views of the United States, and immigrants bring with them the sentiments they learned as children. [. . .]

Democrat Politics

"If African Americans come to believe that America is a land of opportunity in which racism has been largely conquered, it would be catastrophic for the Democrats. The day that most black Americans see America in positive terms will be the day Democrats lose any hope of winning a national election. Whatever one believes about the extent of racism in America, one cannot deny that the Democrats need black Americans to feel victimized by racism. Contented black Americans spell disaster for the Democratic Party.

"If women marry, it is bad for the Democratic Party. Single women are an essential component of any Democratic victory. Unmarried women voted for Kerry by a 25-point margin (62 percent to 37 percent), while married women voted for President Bush by an 11-point margin (55 percent to 44 percent). [. . .]

"If immigrants assimilate, it is not good for Democrats. The Democratic Party has invested in Latino separatism. The more that Hispanic immigrants come to feel fully American, the less likely they are to vote Democrat. That is one reason Democrats support bilingual education -- it hurts Hispanic children, but it keeps them from full assimilation -- and oppose making English America's official language. [. . .]

The Democrats have put themselves in the position of needing failure in Iraq in order to win the next election. [. . .] Even if America is doing better in the war, what matters most for the Democrats are Americans' perceptions of the war. The worse the stories from Iraq, the better for Democrats. [. . .]

Changing the Culture

We've been seduced into blaming moralists as oppressors, and thus separating sexuality from its God-ordained purpose -- the sanctified union between husband and wife within the protective confines of marriage, from which issues the most precious of all things: our children. We have abandoned reason and self-restraint in favor of the self-indulgent fulfillment of our personal desires and lusts. And logically, if sex without consequences is the top priority -- which it has become -- then abortion simply has to be an option, no matter what.

"Second, a huge factor in making abortion acceptable, indeed a 'fundamental American right,' has been the change in American law. Whether in Nazi Germany or in Roe v. Wade America, legalizing something is immensely powerful in persuading people of the moral acceptability of immoral acts. In fact, for a great many people, legal equals moral.

"In America today, the unborn baby is the obvious victim of the abortion holocaust. But there are other victims. Vulnerable young women are deceived by manipulative counselors and unscrupulous 'health professionals' into believing their unborn babies are not human, only to find out too late, in the recovery room or shortly thereafter, that they ended the lives of their own children. What crueler trick could one play on a mother?

Illegal Immigration Policy

Fox has issued identification cards to aliens in order to help them open American bank accounts and obtain American driver's licenses to help them slink into American society. As a result of his policies, today, fully 10% of his nation now resides illegally in ours.

"The United States signed on to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in large part to help the Mexican economy and to stop the flow of illegal aliens. Neither has happened. Instead Mexico continues to tax its business class to the point of suffocation, thereby killing job growth, while implementing socialist policies. In the ten years since signing on to NAFTA, the Mexican economy has grown by only 1.2%. Mexico has refused to learn the lesson that socialism doesn't work. And it doesn't have to learn the lesson because it has the United States to foot the bill by providing jobs and welfare to its poor. That has been Fox's plan all along. "At Harvard, students can take a course in 'Marxist Concepts of Racism.' Karl Marx didn't say much about racism, but that course is an excuse for a left-wing professor to talk about racism. At John Hopkins, students can take a course in 'Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll in Ancient Egypt.' That course offers a slide show of Egyptian women drunk and vomiting. Princeton University students can study 'The Cultural Production of Early Modern Women,' covering prostitution and cross-dressing in 16th and 17th century England, France, Italy and Spain.

"Marxism, homosexuality and racial theory are recurrent themes in college classes. Here is another shocking course title: 'The Unbearable Whiteness of Barbie: Race and Popular Culture in the United States' in which students are taught that so-called 'scientific racism' was used to market the Barbie doll. Students at the University of California at Los Angeles can take 'The Psychology of the Lesbian Experience,' a course that includes study of the so-called 'impact of heterosexism/stigma.' Swarthmore College offers a course in 'Lesbian Novels Since World War II.'

"Other courses [. . .] include Amherst College's 'Taking Marx Seriously: Should Marx Be Given Yet Another Chance?', Brown University's 'Black Lavender: A Study of Black, Gay and Lesbian Plays,' and the University of Michigan's course called 'Ancient Greek to Modern Gay Sexuality.' [. . .]

"When asked what's the typical ideological profile of [the] professors in his book [The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America, David], Horowitz replied: 'A professor who believes the terrorists are freedom fighters and America is the Great Satan. North American Union

The major item of faith for Democratic devotees is religious belief in manmade global warming, which every major Democratic politician has termed the most dramatic threat facing America.

White Guilt

"Dr. [Shelby] Steele begins [his book, White Guilt: How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Right Era) by musing on what the William Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal told us about how moral standards change. He writes that he recalls reading that President Eisenhower used to use the word 'nigger' when he was on the golf course. That posed no threat to his presidency, just as Mr. Clinton's debauching an intern posed no threat to his. However, suggests Dr. Steele, had each man done what the other did, they would have been hounded out of office. 'Race simply replaced sex as the primary focus of America's moral seriousness,' Dr. Steele writes [. . .]

"The central insight of White Guilt is that 'racism' is now America's most despised crime. [It is] the fundamental psychological transformation of our time. This transformation meant that far from being able to face other races with confidence and even a sense of superiority, 'the idea of evil had begun to attach to America and to whites.' Anyone who could be accused of 'racism' immediately lost authority, and not just on social questions. 'Racists' lost all standing as respectable human beings. As Dr. Steele points out, the rigid new structure of taboos thus 'makes the moral authority of whites and legitimacy of American institutions contingent on proving a negative: that they are not racist.' [. . .]

"The army angers its white soldiers and stigmatizes its blacks and browns with racial preferences -- not because this improves the army but because the white officer corps that merit would produce would not meet today's standards for moral authority. [. . .]

"Merit, excellence and ability, writes Dr. Steele, are 'unforgivingly exclusionary.' 'Inclusion' requires that excellence be ignored, that mediocre Third-Worlders be treated like great artists, that black tinkerers be hailed as geniuses, and that every obscure Negro be put on a postage stamp. [. . .]

"Dr. Steele writes that the older generation of civil rights leaders believed their behavior had to be impeccable, that they had to act better than white people if their call for equal treatment was to be taken seriously. Things changed in the 1960s: '[B]lack power would no longer come from being better than whites; it would come from not being better. . . . [. . .] [B]lack power grew in direct proportion to white guilt, and could not have been possible without it. [. . .]

"Once the ancient distinction between black and white was broken down, the 1960s made short work of virtually every other distinction whites had taken for granted: man and woman, heterosexual and homosexual, normal and perverted, diligence and sloth, health and sickness, good and bad. As Dr. Steele points out, the collapse of so many traditions abetted the '60s generation's illusion that it had a mandate to remake the world. [. . .]

"That is why, as Dr. Steele writes, 'baby boomer-counterculture consciousness is now the establishment consciousness, while traditional American values now constitute a kind of counterculture.'"
