POEMS for YEAR 2000

When worries beset me, extracting a toll,
I press pen to paper, and spill out my soul.

Poems copyrighted 2000 by Fred Gielow.

Momentary Cease Fire
Posted here for: 12-18-00.

All year we shout and raise a fuss.
Indignant and incredulous,
We rant and rave and carry on
With demonstrations woebegone.

With love of country resolute,
We rally to reconstitute
The values of this U.S.A.,
Those values that have slipped away:

That men are free and sovereign souls,
Unleashed from tyranny's controls;
That freedoms are a gift from God,
Forever to remain untrod.

But at this time of Christmastide,
When Christmas cheer we should abide,
We bow in solemn gratitude,
Reflective of a Christmas mood.

The Grand and Glorious Florida Supreme Court
Posted here for: 12-11-00.

So now we learn the truth at last:
The rule of law is in our past.
For partisans in stately robes
Are strictly partisan in probes.

With Constitution law ignored,
It's easier to find accord.
Then politics can reign supreme.
It is a politician's dream!

So, truth and rights and justice: gone.
Erased now from the lexicon.
Subsumed by legalistic war
To yield the spoils to Albert Gore.

Milosevic, who lost his race,
Was demonized in wild disgrace,
But Smiling Al, who lost his, too,
With cronies strikes a massive coup.

For America
Posted here for: 12-4-00.

Al Gore really oughta know
Al Gore really oughta go.

In Denial -- a limerick
Posted here for: 11-27-00.

Poor Al Gore was having no fun.
Vote counting was over and done.
-----"The winner is me!"
-----Said Al, angrily,
"It ain’t over ‘til I have won!"

Al Gore Inserts Earplugs as the Fat Lady Sings -- a limerick
Posted here for: 11-27-00.

As victory hopes slowly fade,
With Palm Beach and Broward and Dade,
-----The loser, Al Gore,
-----A loser, big, sore,
Now rains on the George Bush parade.

Stealing Elections 101 -- a limerick
Posted here for: 11-22-00.

While Democrats quietly gloated,
The people, incredulous, noted:
-----Their ballots: ignored
-----(The tally was "Gored"),
When Florida justices voted.

Stealing Elections 102 -- a limerick
Posted here for: 11-22-00.

How strange in this frantic search for
Missing chad in this post-voting war,
-----Each mark and each dimple
-----(By process quite simple)
Is never for Bush, always Gore.

Stealing Elections: A Great Democrat Tradition -- a limerick
Posted here for: 11-22-00.

It’s clearly, on merely inspection,
Quite easy to steal an election.
-----The law can be spurned,
-----Indeed, overturned,
Without even mild insurrection.

What's on TV? -- a limerick
Posted here for: 11-20-00.

Filth/violence/sex make me wince.
To buy a V-chip they convince.
-----I set my TV
-----To filter all three.
The screen has been blank ever since!

Mere Words
Posted here for: 11-13-00.

Mere words can convey a great sadness or joy,
They stir us to action in skillful employ.
They instigate war or precipitate peace.
They're used with great caution or utter caprice.

Words send men to prison; some guilty, some not,
They emancipate or can have someone shot.
So dangerous, powerful, threatening -- the word,
Perhaps we'd be wise to have each registered.

The word-spinner expert -- the media type --
Can be quite effective with media hype.
With nuance and shading and subtle aplomb,
They pepper the people until they succumb.

A loyalty, lib'ral, they never betray,
While feigning no bias in all that they say.
So clever, this bunch, they can make you believe
Their thoughts are your own that you think and conceive.

The Liberal Ruling Class -- a limerick
Posted here for: 11-6-00.

Those running for office seek power
To rule from an ivory tower.
-----Their liberal creed
-----Is thus guaranteed,
As freedoms they quickly devour.

Truth Challenged
Posted here for: 10-30-00.

To-the-best of his ability, the VP tells the truth,
And has been, surely, since the early moments of his youth.
The records show, as we all know, he doesn't pass the test,
Suggesting his ability with truth is poor at best!

Tricky Dick
Posted here for: 10-30-00.

The magazine, The Rolling Stones, depicted recently
Al Gore with air brushed crotch enhanced almost indecently.
World issues are irrelevant! Such pictures may divulge
The race for President is now the battle of the bulge!

RU-486 -- a limerick
Posted here for: 10-23-00.

Pro-choicers proclaim it a boom
To rid fetuses from the womb.
-----It’s safe, so they say,
-----At our FDA,
But safe, I inquire, for whom?

When Does Life Begin? -- a limerick
Posted here for: 10-23-00.

Some pro-choice folks have this perception:
At birth life begins. It’s deception!
-----For which one of you
-----Would say that it’s true
That you weren’t alive at conception?

Perverting Truth
Posted here for: 10-16-00.

Now once as a people we honored the truth
And viewed violators unfit and uncouth.
The values have shifted; the standards reversed.
The lie is now honored and often rehearsed.

Not "up with the times" was harassed Linda Tripp.
Unwilling was she to let one falsehood slip.
The White House condemned her and so did the press;
The public impugned her and called her a mess.

Now President Bill, just by contrast, you see,
Declared no involvement with Miss Lewinski.
But that was a lie, a great fib he'd bestow.
Shucks, everyone lies about sex, don't you know.

The people rejoiced as their leader stood tall,
His falsehoods to jurors corrupting us all.
The moral is clear: any lib'ral can lie,
While truthful conservatives folks vilify!

The Right to Not Vote
Posted here for: 10-9-00.

It is our right and duty; each vote's vital we are told.
Democracy will die if we don't vote, we are cajoled.
Well, pardon me, but let me interject contrary view.
Permit me, if you will, to decimate this bugaboo.

If voters, uninformed, mark ballots just to be in style,
It's hard for me their votes and good results to reconcile.
If citizens wish lawlessness and vote accordingly,
I'd rather each withhold his vote and be an absentee.

The folks who just don't give a damn or have an empty dome
Should opt out on election day, I'd say, and just stay home.
How are our freedoms, sacred, saved if enemies are coaxed
To vote for tyranny, assuring freedom's fate is hoaxed.

If citizens, illegal, hear the bugle call to vote,
You can be sure illegal causes they'll indeed promote.
So there are many hearing pleas to vote politico,
Who, when the polls are open, I do hope, will just say no!

Voting Your Conscience
Posted here for: 10-2-00.

If you don't like our Constitution, think it's out of date,
If special rights for special groups are what you celebrate,
If you would like the auto banned and taxes raised once more,
And hand guns confiscated, while gun rights we all ignore,

If you think bugs and beetles more important than is man,
And government that's global beats our Founding Fathers' plan,
And if you love corruption, if your freedom you abhor,
Then, clearly, you'll be voting in November for Al Gore.

How Can You Tell a Book by Its Cover --
When the Cover Keeps Changing?

Posted here for: 9-25-00.

They say that Al Gore needs to be
-----Defined anew with pedigree,
That demonstrates his charm and wit
-----To prove for office he is fit.

But earth-tone, alpha male Al
-----Just isn't good for my morale.
For who can tell what Al believes,
-----When simply how he looks deceives?

Non-Governmental Organizations --
The Ubiquitous NGOs

Posted here for: 9-18-00.

Suppose attorneys, for a case, could choose the jury they would face.
Well, you might say, that’s just not fair, no justice could be certain there.
Indeed, when ev’ry deck is stacked, injustice rules: now that’s a fact.
Without the laws that set us free, the people have no liberty.

And now we learn of UN schemes, with slight of hand, or so it seems,
To stack the deck with NGOs, as sovereignty it overthrows.
An NGO, to serve the cause, must pledge support to UN "laws."
No deviation is allowed; compliance makes the UN proud.

So when we hear "majorities" support a New World Order, please!
Remember how they play the game: they stack the deck; it’s all the same.
When they announce the Tobin Tax, to heap more payments on our backs,
Or UN Army, crim’nal court, or eco laws of every sort,

Their cover’s blown; the truth is out! It’s global dominance, no doubt!
For those who prize our nation’s ways, must yield, forget the "good old days."
But why no action from the Hill? Perhaps an anti-UN bill?
It seems, I sadly say to you, the deck is stacked in Congress, too.

Equal Justice
Posted here for: 9-11-00.

As freedom's root, our founders saw
"Equal justice under the law."
Though simple and a noble plan,
To implement: gargantuan.

But Democrats are unimpressed;
They'll scrap that scheme at first request.
You see, if justice, equal, rules,
Then Clinton's gone; they'll look like fools.

And equal justice can't condone
Their "preferential treatment" tone.
Their special perks for-a chosen few
Throw equal justice all askew.

But lately, "hate crimes" are their rage
Their own hate to, I'm sure, assuage.
Yet, two outcomes for every crime
Kill equal justice every time.

Though this may come as a surprise,
All citizens should realize
Democracy is not our game.
Indeed, it's not our claim to fame.

No simple vote is at our core,
For simple votes could evermore
Deprive minorities of rights
Imposed, let's say, by racist whites.

Instead, a nation built on law
Is what our noble founders saw,
Where equal justice is supreme
And held in honored, high esteem.

But Democrats by actions show
The rule of law they'll overthrow.
Yes, any evil they'll abide
To save Bill Clinton's rotten hide.

Inheritance Taxes -- a limerick
Posted here for: 9-4-00.

Big wars have been waged on taxation
Without proper representation.
-----When I meet my fate,
-----They’ll tax my estate.
Then, representation: damnation!

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
Posted here for: 8-28-00.

You should never chew on chicken, take a bite of beef or pig,
Say impassioned PETA people. Offered meat, you should renege.
Use a rope to hold your pants up. Let your cat and dog go free.
Use no milk or dairy product, nor sweet honey from the bee.

Pearls from oysters are verboten, as are vaccinations, too.
Dogsleds: gone. And horseback riding, scrambled eggs, and cheese fondue.
No more luscious T-bones, lobsters, snails, and shrimp, et cetera.
Gone forever: hollandaise, au jus, and pâté de foie gras.

Stop all hunting, stop all fishing; this, just part of their demand.
No more zoos or seeing-eye dogs. These and more must all be banned.
Stop the circus, drain the fish tanks, halt research on chimpanzees.
No more animals in movies or displayed on our TVs.

Never harm a rat or cockroach. Never use a pesticide.
Never swat a fly, mosquito. Cruelty they can’t abide.
Welcome AIDS and plagues, ebola, viruses, bubonic flu.
PETA loves all living creatures. All, that is, but me and you.

Environmentalist's Vision
Posted here for: 8-21-00.

The lib'rals and the eco-maniacs they all agree
There's only one effective way to stop catastrophe.
To save the planet, cool the warming, we must all embrace
A simple concept: just eradicate the human race.

Liberalism in the Government Schools
Posted here for: 8-14-00.

How much opportunity squandered?
How much rich potential destroyed?
As kids have so aimlessly wondered
Through schools, education devoid.

No thinking, no reason incited,
They're drilled by the PC police.
Just when will these great wrongs be righted?
Just when will this tragedy cease?

Moral Dilemma
Posted here for: 7-31-00.

Lib'rals scoff at your religion;
Too confining, they complain.
They just couldn't care a smidgeon
For restraints in their domain.

With a faith come certain morals,
Certain rights and wrongs proclaimed.
There's no resting on your laurels;
Cross the line and you'll be blamed.

Take away religious guidelines;
Who then sets the conduct rules?
With Commandments on the sidelines,
Moral folks are mortal fools.

Lib'ralism, then, quite clearly
Is a selfish arrogance.
It equates, quite cavalierly,
Morals with irrelevance.

Multiculturalism
Posted here for: 7-24-00.

This theory that liberals tout and embrace is
As false as a poker hand filled with five aces.
To disprove the notion, just ask yourself whether
Birds not of a feather will all flock together.

Prince Albert Gore
Posted here for: 7-24-00.

Prince Albert has broken the law, they now say.
-----There's proof he is one guilty man.
If laws he is simply not going to obey,
-----Prince Albert should be in the can!

The Leftists
Posted here for: 7-17-00.

The leftists pit the "filthy rich" against the "wealth impaired".
They penalize success to guarantee a wealth that's shared.
The concept -- motivation -- which impels the rich to earn
Is trashed, but leftists figure that's just none of their concern.

The leftists pit the gay and lesbian against the "straight".
Reluctant to embrace abhorrent conduct is now hate.
Behavior, homosexual, destroys the family,
But leftists say that's just not their responsibility.

The leftists pit the blacks against the European whites,
Demanding special privileges though rankle soon ignites.
Equality, they say, they simply must now redefine,
Despite the fact it ravishes America's design.

And leftists pit the man's against the sacred woman's role;
Their woman's lib agenda now has taken quite a toll.
For leftists mark their progress and they register their joy
Not by their rich creations, but by what they can destroy.

It's Democracy
Posted here for: 7-10-00.

I’ve found an easy exercise that anyone can do:
Just find two other citizens much poorer than are you.
Suggest to each a simple vote; majority will rule;
Will all agree to equal shares of monies that you pool?

Of course it’s clear, the vote will pass; the margin -- two to one.
Your money, redistributed, you’ll find, when vote is done.
No academic exercise, this point I’m trying to make.
The UN hounds are howling just for such a vote to take!

Republicans
Posted here for: 7-10-00.

Republicans, a sorry lot, are wimps and dupes and fools.
Too often to support the left they’re willing, anxious tools.
For Freedom’s cause and Liberty they’re sometimes dirty rats,
But by a hundred times they’re better than the Democrats!

Gone
Posted here for: 7-3-00.

Many Americans now are relieved;
'Cause Elian's home with his dad.
Many Americans have been deceived;
For we, by the press, have been had.

Families here we affirm, consecrate;
Families, truly, we treasure.
Families there are a ward of the state;
Merely a resource they measure.

Elian’s dad will betray his own son
(Bending to Castro to please him).
Now his son’s custody battle is won,
May be the last time he sees him.

Elian's fate is most likely to be
One of two outcomes quite guarded:
Communist spokesman unwaveringly,
Or trash very quickly discarded.

The Sap of Freedom
Posted here for: 7-3-00.

Slowly, slowly, slowly, bleeds the sap of Freedom’s soul,
Relinquished for "security" that governments extol.
For comforts and "entitlements" the people rush to yield
Their basic rights and liberties, as freedoms are repealed.

The governments grow stronger as the citizens grow weak,
Creating from a people strong, a people beaten, meek.
Yet, blinded by the promises of handouts evermore,
We cede our richest heritage which lifetimes can’t restore.

And slowly, slowly, slowly as America decays,
We register amazement at American malaise.
Our independent thinking and our pioneering verve
Are traded in. We’ve lost our way; we’ve lost our pride and nerve.

The greedy globalists await, like vultures on a limb,
To pick at Freedom’s bones to rule undisciplined, at whim.
The patriots would weep to find through lives they gave to spawn
A precious sap of Freedom for mankind, now nearly gone.

Falling Tree in the Forest
Posted here for: 6-26-00.
(See "Horror in Rhodesia," by Dr. William Pierce, Free American, June 2000, pages 16-17.)

The beatings are brutal, the torture intense.
The Zimbabwe farmers have little defense.
A cleansing, quite ethnic, the mobs will incite.
It goes unreported; the farmers are white.

Selective Patriotism -- a limerick
Posted here for: 6-26-00.

'Tis puzzling irony, surely,
That media, quite hurly-burly,
-----Defend to the end
-----The Amendment first penned,
Though are to the Second quite surly.

Education Agenda
Posted here for: 6-19-00.

For thirty years the policies of NEA, the left,
Have ravaged education hopes; it's been a thorough theft.
When failure, absolute, they face, yet they refuse reform,
Methinks the target in their sights is failure as a norm!

The kids can't read, nor can they spell, they sure can't do their math.
No hist'ry, science, languages will ever cross their path.
Though SAT scores tumbled, parents grumbled, over fumbled smarts,
Kids attitudes are supercharged, as are their bleeding hearts.

Fight On
Posted here for: 6-19-00.

No counsel wins an argument, no bettor wins a bet,
Nor warrior a battle with his gun or bayonet,
No actor wins an Oscar, nor a jockey loving cup,
No mortal wins the game of life by simply giving up.

Whither Goest the UN?
Posted here for: 6-12-00.

That splendid bunch in NYC debates the whole world's ills.
To bicker over matters is a role the UN fills.
But now that bunch has grander schemes that far eclipse debate.
They wish a one-world governance; they plan to dominate!

They wish a UN army for to fight for "lasting peace",
To guarantee the sacred rights of nations quickly cease.
They wish a mighty world court to meter justice out,
With "guilty-'til-proved-innocent" and "secret-jury" clout.

They want the Tobin Tax in force to confiscate our funds.
They want their treaties all enforced to confiscate our guns.
They want the world's rules written by a UN squad
To decimate the concept that our rights all come from God.

With absolute world power comes corruption, total, too,
For who, with power absolute, would give a vote to you?
But there's a way to beat this beast and I will tell you how:
Just extricate the US from the UN. Do it now!

Drugs for All -- a limerick
Posted here for: 6-5-00.
(See letter by Peter R. Breggin, MD. See also article by George F. Will. See also news release by Yale University. See also Ritalin Class Action Lawsuit.)

The government, absent compunction,
Declares it's quite clearly its function
-----To give kids a spin
-----On drugs (Ritalin).
Are we next to suffer such unction?

A Fan
Posted here for: 5-29-00.

"The Mets are the best," said our waiter, enthused.
"But why not the Yankees; a great team," I mused.
He scoffed at the thought; "Why, the Yankees are trash --
"The Yankees, indeed; a good team? Balderdash!"

His partisanship and allegiance were real,
But based, clearly, on merely passion and zeal
And how many voters of whichever stripe
Are likewise so smitten on merely the hype?

Sales Person of the Year
Posted here for: 5-22-00.

'Twas First Lady Hillary, you will recall
Who sounded the warning, Bill's doom to forestall:
A right-wing conspiracy, vast, she intoned,
Had wanted her hubby dispatched and dethroned.

The Liberal media bowed in respect,
Repeating her mantra unchanged and unchecked.
How vicious and vile those right wingers, mean,
Conspiring to uphold the law, how obscene!

We now know the villain -- that creep and that louse --
Resided with Hillary in the White House.
The right-wing conspiracy, vast as it is
Was unimplicated; the scandal was his.

So where's the First Lady, all pretty in pink,
To beg our forgiveness -- well, what do you think?
With carpet bag bulging, all worldly and wise,
She's dealing in what she does best, selling lies.

Snatching Kids
Posted here for: 5-15-00.

To honor the family, government thugs
Snatched Elian screaming from fisherman tugs.
While kids by the thousands are seized by the state
Away from their parents to a worse-by-far fate.

Elian, Goodbye
Posted here for: 5-15-00.

Thus banished from freedom, poor Elian now
Is learning his freedom he must disavow.
With potion and needle the point is well made
He must croon a Communistic serenade.

Soon back in the cane fields this young lad will toil
To learn to appreciate Communist soil.
But should freedom live in his heart and his soul,
His life they will steal, as his spirit they stole.

The Wondrous Network News
Posted here for: 5-8-00.

His life, oh so simple, for Citizen Joe.
The network news coverage is all he need know.
Tom, Peter, and Dan Joe considers his pals,
And rank second only to all of Joe's gals.

Each newscast: how polished, how proper and neat;
Reports 'round the world; a remarkable feat!
A day's news each evening is broadcast -- forsooth!
The only thing missing is sometimes the truth.

Poems from 1993.

The way back home.
