It included efforts to eradicate the use of asbestos, tobacco, carcinogenic pesticides, and food dyes. Good diet was promoted almost as aggressively. Soybeans become Nazi beans, and bakers were required to bake whole-grain bread. The anti-smoking campaign was imaginative and intensive, if not particularly successful in changing personal habits.. . . A Hitler Youth manual proclaimed, 'Nutrition is not a private matter!' Each citizen had a duty to be healthy, because the citizen existed for the state. . . . The Nazis were interested in collective goals, not personal flourishing. They aspired for workers to remain healthy and productive until retirement, and then die, because the elderly are a drain on the state. . . ." -- From a review of the book The Nazi war on Cancer, by Robert N. "The push to green America's places of worship and make Judeo-Christian worship into nature worship -- a movement aimed at 100 million members of churches and synagogues in America -- won new backing recently when the New York-based National Partnership for the Environment announced a $16 million campaign to make environmentalism a 'fundamental focus of religious life for every denomination in America.' . . . . Although the proposed merger between God and nature has been in the works at least since the '60s, the Partnership for the Environment was founded in 1993 with help from the late scientist Carl Sagan and from Vice President Al Gore, whose controversial book, Earth in the Balance, has become a canonical text for religious environmentalists. . . ." -- "Green Churches," by Mark Tooley, Heterodoxy, September 1999, page 8. But that, of course, would suggest that the examination actually tested one's capability, talent, and/or . . . intelligence. My, my, that would also suggest that someone who scored lower than someone else had, are you ready for this?, a lower intelligence. Well, we certainly don't want to think anyone is smarter than anyone else, so the name has been changed. Now the letters stand for "Scholastic Assessment Test." The politically correct (a.k.a. cultural Marxist) folks score another victory. -- From "Newsbriefs," Middle America News, October 1999, page 7.
