I've decided to combine my Government Run Amok and Quickies pages into one page -- this page. Also, I won't archive these items any more.

Postings for 4-18-11.

Another Regulation
A federal law limits water used by a showerhead to an unimpressive 2.5 gallons per minute. But now, a new Obama regulation applies that limit to all nozzles used in high-end shower fixtures. A shower with four separate sprays, for example, can by law produce no more than 2.5 gallons total! In effect, this will immediately outlaw thousands of shower products on the market.

Wheelchair Lifeguards
Lifeguards at Clearwater Beach, Florida must be in good physical shape. After all, they have to rescue drowning swimmers. But now, the town is being forced to make all the lifeguard towers wheelchair accessible! Thanks to the Americans with Disabilities Act. And if that's not bad enough, it'll cost a tidy sum to comply: $18,000. Is government completely insane?

Another Freedom Clipped
The [UK] Telegraph reports that Iran's culture ministry has produced a catalog of acceptable men's hairstyles. Further, it has banned many "decadent Western cuts," including spikes, mullets, and ponytails. It only demonstrates the premise that ever-larger governments will exert ever-more control, resulting in ever-less freedom.

Party Time
Guess what's going on in some of the federal detention centers for illegal aliens? Cooking classes, dance instruction, movie nights, and bingo games. Also: laptop computer training, access to legal materials, email, and phones. Oh yes, further: arts and crafts programs, exercise, and walking classes. Clearly, many illegals are being treated better than honest, law-abiding U.S. citizens.

> His Word Is Worthless!
"There are 21 new or higher taxes in Obamacare, seven of which break Obama's 'firm pledge' not to raise 'any form' of taxes on families making less than $250,000 per year."

Stealing Your Money
"Charles Ortel, managing director of Newport Value Partners [reports] that the Federal Reserve plan to buy $600 billion of U.S. Government securities 'borders on the criminal' because the impact will be the devaluation of the dollar by 20 percent and the destruction of $10 trillion of household net worth."

Throwing Money Away I
"Thanks to new regulations that the federal government is not empowered by the Constitution to issue, local governments all across the country will soon spend millions remaking their street signs. A new diktat from the U.S. Department of Transportation requires that all street signs must be in both upper and lower case letters, and meet new higher light-reflectivity standards. Signs indicating a street name typically cost about $100, so high-density cities face huge expenses to comply. In New York City, the cost is projected to reach $27.5 billion [. . .] One of the studies cited by regulators to justify the new policy was funded by 3M, the company that manufactures the reflective material used on street signs."

Throwing Money Away II
"[Massachusetts] provided Evergreen Solar company some $58 million in incentives, including tax breaks and outright grants. But two years after opening its $425 million plant to make solar panels, it is closing its doors, killing some 800 jobs. The reason? Competition from cheap labor, technology-stealing Red China."

> Cultural Marxism I
"[O]nce 'gay marriage' is legalized in America -- something for which there is virtually no precedent in the 5,000 years of Western Civilization -- your schools will be required to teach your children that homosexuality is totally normal, your pastors and rabbis will fear preaching their faith's core moral vales, and gender confusion and immorality will reign supreme in America."

> Cultural Marxism II
"The small bakery Just Cookies was asked by a homosexual group to make rainbow-colored cookies to celebrate 'National Coming Out Day' (which affirms public and proud self-declarations of homosexuality by youth). They refused, and soon faced criticism from the mayor and possible eviction under Indianapolis' 'sexual orientation' law from a City Market Building where they have been located for 20 years."
